This week’s move of the week at Gracie Barra Costa Mesa is an awesome arm bar sequence from the closed guard. Follow #gbcmmotw on Instagram for an archive of our techniques.
First Open the cross lapel and feed over the cross arm – everything else is the same as if you were setting up a regular arm bar; changing your angle, breaking the posture and throwing your legs over their head.
Second: Same set up as the first, but now feed this lapel under their neck and re-grip it from behind for a wicked collar choke!
Third: With the same collar choke as previous as leverage, now dive your free hand under their close leg and windmill (big circle) your legs to sweep them towards their trapped arm.
Fourth: Once our partner is mounted from our lapel sweep, put the free arm behind their head to add extra leverage to pull the choke tighter.
Bouns: If their top arm is extended, pinch top arm over the elbow and extend hips forwad.
